Orly Kladnitsky, PhD
Lab Manager, Ph.D. Laboratory of Developmental Nephrology, faculty of medicine, Technion.  Before joining the Bar On lab, Orly worked as a scientific researcher at the Cancer metabolism lab at the Technion. Her project focused on metabolic targets of compounds that specifically kill SDH-deficient cells, collaborating with Metabomed. Her current goal is to uncover the immunological role of the viral protein RSV-G.

Dina Khateeb, PhD Candidate
MSc in Microbiology, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. BSc in Medical Laboratory Science, Hadassah College, Jerusalem. In her master’s degree, Dina focused on drug discovery for Trypanosoma parasite infection treatment. Dina joined our team in April 2020, right after the lab was opened, and has been studying immune evasion mechanisms of RNA respiratory viruses, including SARS-CoV-2 and influenza virus. Her work is fully focused on immune checkpoints inhibitors aiming to enhance the antiviral T-cell responses for a better control of viral infections. Dina is a recipient of VATAT scholarship for outstanding PhD students from the Arab society. In her spare time, Dina enjoys coffee, Romila’s Indian food, and aerobic kickboxing to blow off steam.

Romila, PhD Candidate

MSc in Microbiology from Kumaun University, Nainital, India. BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology, Sikkim Manipal University, India. Before joining Bar-On lab, Romila worked for few years as project research fellow in the Laboratory of Fungal pathogenesis, CDFD, Hyderabad, India. Where, she worked on delineating the role of histone proteins in the pathophysiology of the pathogenic yeast Candida glabrata. To peruse her research interest in infection biology and Immunology, she joined Bar-On lab as a PhD student in Dec 2020. Her current project aims to design novel engineered antibodies against influenza viruses. The long-term goal of her study is to develop an improved therapeutic for sustained suppression of influenza virus infection. She is also assigned as Virus Room Manager for the common BSL-2+ facility of the Technion Medicine Faculty. Outside of science, she enjoys cooking, spending time with her friends and plants, explore new cuisine, culture and places.

Raghad, M.Sc. candidate

Raghad got her B.Med.Sc degree in Tel Aviv University. Even though she was studying to become a dentist, she fell in love with immunology and decided to pursue a career in research instead. Today, she works on the oncolytic reovirus, to investigate how the immune response is altered after tumor cells get infected with reovirus, hoping that this will enhance                                                                                   reovirus-based treatments for cancer                                                                        patients in the future.

Jhonatan Harari  MD degree from the Technion Institute of Technology , graduated in 2018, Pediatrician in training and a future PhD candidate of the lab. Planned areas of research – Escape mechanisms of viruses (specifically  RSV) from the human immune system.

Yara Diab, M.Sc. candidate

B.Sc Medicine science and Biology – University of Haifa . My research focus on the immune response to HIV. I aim to identify changes in immune checkpoint pathways that occur upon HIV-1 infection.

Ghaydaa Sirhan, M.Sc. candidate

Ghaydaa started her journey at the Hebrew university of Jerusalem where she got her B.Sc in biomedical sciences, she decided that our lab is the perfect place  to continue her conquest for scientific truth, in Ghaydaa’s vision, every immune response is like an epic warfare, where our body is a fortress with an elite army of cells defending it from foreign invaders, and bringing back to life what has been damaged, using a varied arsenal of weapons and tactics, in her research she aims to unlock our immune system’s mysterious strategies involved in the tissue damage repair, and hopefully come up with new ideas to fortify this amazing fortress
